What is your order process?
It couldn’t be more simple! Just 3 easy steps:
1. Place your order online or by phone (630-423-5996).
2. We will email you a Design Kit which includes everything you need to design your own quilt. Our quilters are always available for questions or suggestions during this process as well. Plus, the Design Kit includes a pre-paid shipping label.
3. We receive your shirts, put together your quilt the way you specify on the Design Kit, take a picture BEFORE we do any cutting or sewing, and ship back your finished Quilted Memories™ quilt in just a couple of weeks! That’s it! We’ll even send you a photo of your completed quilt before we ship it.
Do I have to pay for the entire cost of the quilt up front?
No, just a $100 deposit when you place your order. We charge the balance when we mail you the finished quilt. If we haven’t yet sent you the Design Kit, you can still cancel your order and receive a full refund of your deposit. If we have sent the Design Kit then you have 60 days to cancel your quilt, and we will return $75 of your deposit.
Can I choose the layout of my t-shirts in the quilt?
Yes! Each Design Kit includes a quilt format page that allows you to lay out your quilt exactly the way you want it.
How long does it take to receive my finished quilt?
During most of the year our turnaround time is 2 weeks from when we start cutting your t-shirts and designing your quilt. Rush orders can be finished in as quickly as 3 days (Rush orders subject to Rush Fee). Graduation time (May-July) and the Christmas season are our busy times, so quilts will take a little longer to finish during these times. (Please see our Terms & Conditions for our Christmas Delivery policies and Rush Fees)
Do you fully quilt every quilt or just tack the corners?
We ALWAYS fully quilt our quilts! Fully quilting is the best way to ensure your quilt lasts a lifetime, and it gives each quilt character and looks great! When we fully quilt our quilts, the quilting reinforces the t-shirts by attaching them to the batting and the backing fabric. This way we keep the quilt soft, but still makes it last for decades.
How are my shirts cut?
The standard square size is 15″ x 15″, however, every quilt is given special attention from our master quilters and square size my vary slightly. You may request a different size if you have already started cutting your shirts or if your designs are exceptionally large. 98% of shirts from children to adult will fit in this size.
What happens to the scraps from my t-shirts after the squares have been cut?
Quilted Memories™ disposes of the t-shirt scraps for you. If you would like us to save your scraps, we can ship them back with the completed quilt.
What if my t-shirts have holes or stains in them?
We accept any t-shirt you provide expecting you understand that the quality of your quilt depends somewhat on the quality of the t-shirts provided. Stains and small tears can add character to a quilt if there is a great story or memory to go along. After all, that’s what these quilts are all about!
Do I need to wash or cut my t-shirts for you to make the quilt?
Please wash your t-shirts before sending them to us. Washing your shirts prevents the colors from bleeding and makes working with them a little more pleasant for the Quilted Memories™ sewing team. Leave the cutting to us, however. Just send us your clean, whole shirts and we’ll send back a soft, warm, and cozy Quilted Memories™ quilt.
Can I wash my quilt?
Yes! Quilted Memories™ quilts are as washable as the materials selected to go in them. We suggest caring for your quilt as gently as you would care for the most sensitive fabric in it. Quilts made of pre-washed cotton t-shirts can be machine washed with cold water and line dried. If you have a dark-colored backing and any light-colored shirts, you should dry-clean your quilt just to be safe.
Someone else started making a quilt for me and it doesn’t look good. Can you salvage it and still make it into a Quilted Memories™ t-shirt quilt?
Yes! We actually do this more often than you think! Sometimes we can just finish up the process, but if the t-shirts are all different sizes or uneven, we usually can applique them onto our own fabric and then sew them together. Either way, we can make it work!
What is batting and how thick is it?
Batting is the layer of material between the t-shirts and the backing, making your quilt soft, fluffy, and warm.
What is sashing?
Sashing is a 1.5 to 3 inch border around every shirt in the quilt. Sashing especially enhances a quilt when many of the shirts are the same color. We sash ALL our quilts (unless you would prefer that we don’t – just ask!) because we believe it creates a higher-quality, sturdier, more attractive quilt. You can choose the sashing color from our choices for backing fleece (we use the same colors) or send in your own fabric with your shirts.
What fabric do you use for the backing?
Backing is the fabric on the side opposite the t-shirts. We use only high-quality fleece backing for a wonderfully warm and soft quilt. No other t-shirt quilting company offers this high-quality fleece for their backing. We have about a dozen colors available, but if you would like a special color or design please call and ask! (Special requests for backing fabric may be subject to additional material fees) You will have the option to choose your backing color when we send you the Design Kit. You may also use your own fabric. Simply send it in with your shirts.
Does Quilted Memories™ do embroidery services?
At this time we do not offer embroidery services, however, if you would like to include a name from the back of a jersey, or other unique fabric which we can sew into the quilt, we would be happy to include that as well – just ask!
What about special requests?
We are happy to accommodate any and all of your special requests – just ask! Quilted Memories™ has made custom quilts of all kinds, and our quilters have been sewing/quilting for decades! Custom services are quoted upon request. Visit our Order Page to place a special request order. Or Contact Us today with any questions or concerns you may have.
The items for my Quilted Memories™ quilt are special and dear to my heart. How does Quilted Memories™ ease my worries?
We know your t-shirts have significant meaning and are special to you, so we want you to be as comfortable as possible shipping them to us, and during the entire quilting process. Quilted Memories™ uses FedEx to ship packages so we (and YOU!) can track your package during shipping. We also email you at every stage, from the safe arrival of your shirts to the departure of your finished quilt, with tracking numbers and other pertinent information. We won’t keep you guessing where we are in the quilt-making process. Finally, we require a signature upon final delivery so you can rest assured your new custom t-shirt quilt won’t be sitting on your front porch while you aren’t home to bring it inside.
What is a square, and how big is it?
A square refers to one t-shirt square within your t-shirt quilt. A standard square is 15 inches on all sides, and it can be made from the front, back, or sides of a shirt or any other item you want included in your quilt. It can also contain anything you want us to sew onto a 15 inch blank square, such as the pockets from t-shirts, ties, arm patches, etc. Unlike other t-shirt quilting businesses, we try to customize each quilt and choose a square size that works best. That way, we do not sew over or cut out any desired graphic. We will find a way to get your desired graphic on your t-shirt quilt without sacrificing your design or the quality of the quilt. Every quilt is different, and every quilt deserves the special attention it is given by our master quilters.
Can you quilt other fabrics or keepsakes besides t-shirts? (Jeans, sweatshirts, polo shirts, ribbons, etc.)
Of course! Our quilters have experience sewing all sorts of different materials and fabrics such as jeans, gymnastic leotards, picture squares, etc. Contact Us today at 630-423-5996 to discuss your project and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
What do your customers have to say about your quilts?
They absolutely love them! Check out our Customer Reviews page and see for yourself. We never edit or delete any reviews, and we postthem the same day we receive them. Also, take a look at our Gallery to see pictures of all our completed quilts. We are constantly adding more pictures when we finish quilts.
